"ORIGAMI" (paper - folding) Is an ancient traditional art form ..The cranes are especially representative of this art.
One crane paper - folding usually is made from one sheet of paper.
However, "KUWANA NO SENBAZURU (The Thousand Cranes of Kuwana)" refers to a paper - folding technique for the folding of a number of cranes, and multiple cranes from a single sheet of paper.
This technique was the invention of ROKOAN GIDO (1759 - 1831).
Gido published 『Senbazuru Orikata』(Making the Thousand Cranes in Folded Paper).
This book is the worlds oldest text on folded - paper as a form of amusement.
Gido introduce techniques for folding 49 different forms of cranes giving a name to each one based on its appearance.
Gidos name is known to paper - folding enthusiasts throughout the world.
Gido was the abbot of the Kuwana temple Choen - ji.
He was also an important scholar of local history, publishing books on that subject as well.
